We Are in the Digital Age

Postby admin » Mon Feb 16, 2009 12:04 am

We are now in the Digital Audio age. Many of the younger engineers working in the industry are much more comfortable with a digital console than an analog desk. Even most of the senior engineers are comfortable with the digital world. The advantages to going digital are many from the production company point of view as well as the engineer's point of view.

From the production company point of view there is much less weight and expense of outboard gear and equipment is greatly reduced. With the efficiency of the new digital amplifiers the power distribution system can be lightened a great deal. In addition to all this the sound quality is great.

From the engineer's point of view there are all the bells and whistles available on every channel. You can have gates, compressors, and digital effects available without questions about what is in the 'house rack'.

In this section I would like to see user reports, pro and con, on the various pieces of digital gear in use in pro audio. Also if you have tips and techniques that will be of help to others in the community please share them with us. Thanks!!
